Where to buy AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D — the new king of gaming CPUs
AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D is now available to purchase or preorder.

Smashing its way straight to the top spot as the best CPU for gaming, AMD's latest release, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, is available to buy from today (November 7, 2024), and if you want the best processor for pure gaming in your PC, then I'm sure you've already got your eyes on this beast of a CPU.
Using AMD's 3D V-cache technology, the 9800X3D is built for pure gaming prowess. The large cache boosts performance, and along with some design changes to the CPU, including moving the cache chiplet underneath the die to alleviate the thermal insulation of previous designs, the compute die is now closer to the thermal interface material (IHS) and with the increased thermal headroom comes 500 MHz higher base clocks and 200 MHz higher boosts than the previous-gen Zen 4-powered Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D comes with eight-cores and 16-threads and has a 120W TDP, the MSRP for this new CPU is $479/£449 and should be available from all major tech retailers from today. In our in-depth review of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the processor trounced the competition, beating Intel’s current-generation flagship Core 9 285K CPU by an astonishing 35% on average in our test suite.

why_wolf All sites are sold out. Amazon was sold in 5 minutes or less, but they kept the buy button up for another hour. You'd click on it and get an error message after about a minute.Reply -
dimar In Canada memoryexpress.com has it listed on their site as preorder. But I'd rather buy AMD stock, which will make me money to buy Ryzen 9 9950X3D by the time it comes out.Reply -
DougMcC Kinda shocked at the number of people jumping on this immediately without waiting to see how the higher parts work out in real benchmarks.Reply -
DavidLejdar Got mine from Caseking, here in Berlin. Curbside pick-up.Reply
First time I got me some HW on day of release. I suppose somewhat lucky that I had a 6 AM shift today. Checked the site after the shift, seen that they added the listing, bought it, and less than an hour later the site said "Out of stock".
Now soon to run some benchmarks with it on second screen and with still a somewhat older GPU, to compare it to benchmarks I recorded some time ago with the 7600X. May sure not make the FPS double for games such as Cyberpunk and Watchdogs: Legion. But curious anyhow, whether the 9800X3D makes a noticeable difference even at somewhat mid-range GPU. :)
9950X3D may sure perform better, for productivity at least. But it is likely to be also almost +50% more expensive. For me, that's money I rather put towards a higher tier of GPU in several months.DougMcC said:Kinda shocked at the number of people jumping on this immediately without waiting to see how the higher parts work out in real benchmarks. -
MorganThomas It bugs me considerably that in the UK one retailer in question has already raised the price on their site to £519!!! £70 more than MSRP after their first batch of stock sold out.Reply
Scan Computers - £469
Overclockers UK - £449 (although no restock until December)
CCL Computers - £519!!!
Can no longer seem to find the UK Amazon or Currys listing, so presume they’ve temporarily been taken down. -
